Sport Signals Rankings measure the true strength of every football team we track. Unlike league tables, which only compare teams within the same division, our ratings work across leagues and across borders. A Championship side having a great season can be compared directly against a mid-table La Liga team, because the rating reflects performance quality, not just points collected.
Every rating starts at 1500. After each match, both teams' ratings adjust based on the result and the strength of their opponent. Beat a highly rated team and your rating climbs sharply. Lose to a weaker side and it drops. Over hundreds of matches, the ratings settle into a reliable picture of which teams are genuinely strong and which are flattering to deceive.
We calculate five separate ratings for each team to capture different aspects of performance:
The headline rating. Measures overall match-winning ability across all competitions.
How consistently the team scores goals. Teams that regularly hit 2+ goals per game rate highest.
How reliably the team prevents goals. Clean sheets push this rating up, shipping 2+ drops it.
How often both sides score when this team plays. Useful for the Both Teams To Score market.
How frequently the team is involved in high-scoring games (3+ total goals). Key for the Over 2.5 market.
