Right. Scottish Premiership football is back and we are absolutely here for it. Dundee vs Aberdeen, Saturday 8 August, 2pm kick-off at Dens Park. On paper this looks like a mid-table scrap. Dig into the numbers though and there is a proper story here. Trust me on this one.
Look, Dundee are not blowing anyone away this season on overall form. Three wins, two losses in their last five across all games. Fine. Decent enough. Nothing to write home about.
But at home? Completely different animal.
Four wins from their last five home games. Eleven goals scored at Dens Park in that stretch. Their home momentum slope is sitting at 0.6 which, look, I am not usually the one quoting these numbers but even I can see that is pointing upwards. Dundee at Dens Park right now is a proper test for any away side in this league.
And here is the bit that really jumps out. Over their last ten home games, 70 percent of them have ended with over 2.5 goals. BTTS has landed in 60 percent of those. This is not a ground where games die. Dens Park produces football. Chaotic, fun, proper football. You heard it here first.
Honest question. When did Aberdeen last win away from home? Because the data is genuinely bleak, mate.
Zero wins in their last ten away games. Zero. Not one. They have drawn five and lost five. Ten games on the road and the best they managed was a point. Thirteen goals conceded in just their last five away fixtures. That is nearly three a game. Their away clean sheet percentage across the last ten is sitting at ten percent. Ten.
Aberdeen are a completely different side when they travel. At home they have held it together reasonably well, three wins from the last five home games, keeping it tight defensively. But the moment they pack their bags and head out on the road the whole thing falls apart.
There is one long-term injury in the Aberdeen camp right now, a player who has been out since February with no expected return date. We do not have the name confirmed in the available information but a long-term absentee that far into a recovery timeline is never ideal going into a new season.
Look at the fixtures and the head-to-head history here is basically a sample size of one. These two met back in May and Dundee won 3-2. Five goals, both teams on the scoresheet, nobody keeping a clean sheet. One game does not tell you everything but it does tell you something about the vibes when these sides meet. Chaotic energy. Goals at both ends.
The average goals per game in their head-to-head is five. Again, one game, so take that with a pinch of salt. But combined with everything else the data is pointing at? I am not ignoring it.
The SportSignals model gives Dundee a 41.4 percent probability of winning this one. Confidence level is 41. That is not what I would call a banker but it is the single most likely outcome on the card. Aberdeen's away form is so bad right now that even at home against a side sitting fifth in the early standings, Dundee are the favourites.
Honestly, the model agrees with the eye test here. Dundee at home, Aberdeen falling apart on their travels. The arrow points one way.
We do not have live odds confirmed yet for this one but keep an eye on those prices as they firm up through the week. Based on that 41 percent probability the home win should be somewhere in the 2.20 to 2.40 range with most bookmakers. Nothing confirmed, just a heads up on where to look.
Right, this is where it gets genuinely interesting for anyone thinking about markets beyond the result.
Dundee's last five home games have seen over 2.5 goals in 80 percent of them. Aberdeen's last five away games have seen over 2.5 goals in 80 percent of them. Both teams scored in 60 percent of Dundee's recent home games. Both teams scored in 60 percent of Aberdeen's recent away games.
Every single one of those numbers is pointing at a game with goals. Neither side is keeping clean sheets. Aberdeen cannot stop conceding on the road and Dundee love to score at Dens. The only meeting between these two ended 3-2.
I am going big on this. BTTS and over 2.5 goals are the markets to be on here. Not a prediction, not advice, just where my head is at after looking at the data properly for once.
Obviously this one is earmarked for the acca. Dundee to win or over 2.5 goals in this fixture is basically screaming at me from the data. Pair it with a couple of other solid-looking home wins from across the weekend and you have got the bones of something.
Will it land? Mate, you have read my hit rate. But the process here is sound. The vibes are immaculate. Back to the drawing board is not a phrase I plan on using this weekend, don't @ me.
Dundee are the right side to be on here. Home advantage, recent form at Dens, an Aberdeen side that simply does not travel well. The model backs it up. The form table backs it up. Even the one head-to-head result we have backs it up.
Aberdeen are not a bad side. At home they are competitive and they have shown they can win games. But zero wins in ten away fixtures is the kind of run that does not fix itself overnight, especially heading into a new season against a Dundee side that has found something genuinely solid at Dens Park.
Dundee to win. Goals in this game. Both teams on the scoresheet. That is where I am landing seven days out. Check back as we get closer to kick-off for any late team news.
Prediction: Dundee 2-1 Aberdeen
