River Plate have the quality. Everyone in Argentina knows that. But quality without accountability gets you nowhere, and right now there are questions about this River side that need answering before they can be considered genuine title contenders.

Listen, I am not here to write River Plate off. Nine wins from 16 games and a goal difference of plus ten across the season tells you there is real quality in this squad. Their away form over the last five is genuinely impressive: three wins from three, six goals scored, only one conceded, and two clean sheets from three. But they are playing at home on Sunday. And at home this season, they are a different team entirely.

Barracas Central Are Not Here to Make Up the Numbers

Barracas Central sit ninth in the table with 21 points from 16 games. Mid-table, yes. But do not let that fool you into writing them off as easy opponents. Their away record over the last five games is DWDW. Unbeaten. Two wins, two draws. Five goals scored on their travels, three conceded.

The thing is, Barracas are a side that competes. They are not sitting back and hoping for the best. They score goals away from home and their 75 per cent BTTS rate in away matches tells you they are willing to trade punches. That is not a team coming to park the bus. That is a team with the desire to go and get something.

Their overall form over the last five is shakier, one win, two draws, two losses. Home form has been poor, LDLW from their last four at home. But this match is at El Monumental, not at Barracas. And away from home, this team has a completely different attitude. The standards they show on the road are notably higher than what they produce in front of their own supporters. Any pundit ignoring that split is not doing their job.

River are the better team. There is no debate there. The squad depth, the pedigree, the resources. It is not close.
